Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden
Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden has strived to save landfill space by collecting and composting animal manure, branches, trees, stumps, and other green waste from the Zoo grounds and from the community. The soil produced is used on the grounds in exhibits and flower beds. It also recycles trees and tree debris brought in by other city departments. The debris is chipped up and used as mulch on zoo grounds.
Styrofoam petroleum-based cutlery and cups at the concessions were also replaced by corn based ones to make the zoo more environmentally friendly.
