Wesselman Woods Nature Center facility

The original Wesselman Woods Nature Center facility was opened in 1973 and was expanded, improved, and updated to make the building more “green”.

To make the Nature Center facility environmentally sustainable, it was designed to reduce building waste that comes from construction projects. For example, much of the existing building and materials were maintained or salvaged in the final product. The mulched pathways that were made from unused and demolished wood products from the original facility also helped to prevent materials from being sent to landfills. The amount of recycled materials of building products also exceeds 25%.

The renovated and expanded Wesselman Woods Nature Center received LEED® Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in June 2011. This is the second-highest level of LEED* certification a project can receive.
