The Ronald McDonald House has 10 bedrooms with private bathrooms, laundry facilities, play areas, and prayer/reflection spaces.

To improve comfort for the children and families and help protecting the environment, this building incorporates several energy saving features.  It uses a geothermal heat pump system to heat and cool the building more efficiently.  It also applies lighting and HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) control systems to automatically shut off lights and set-back the HVAC system when the room is not used.

Geothermal heat pump is a central heating/ cooling system that takes advantage of the constant temperature of the ground.*  In the winter, heat is drawn from underground and transferred to the house to  keep the house warm. In the summer, heat is removed from the house and transferred to the ground to keep the house cool. The Ronald McDonald House succeeded in archiving 36% of energy saving and received LEED® Silver Certification–a certification given to a building that is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Since opening in 2010, the Evansville’s Ronald McDonald House has helped more than 8,000 children and family members.

Not only is the design good for the environment, the environemtally-sound features provide a healthy and pleasant space for the children and families.
